Curriculum

Kangarilla Primary School follows the Australian Curriculum and has embedded differentiation in learning for our students. We offer Intervention programs in Literacy and Numeracy.

We have 3 classes operating in 2025. This allows our students to have individual and small group instruction, hands on learning, Explicit Direct Instruction in Literacy through IniaiLit (R-2) and Spelling Mastery (Year 3-6).

Art

Art is offered across the school and is capably delivered by Yvonne Wright with the support of class teachers. Yvonne has a wealth of Art experience and skill. The students use a variety of media in the production of their work.

Camps

Every two years we have a whole school camp. Location, duration of stay and the focus of these camps vary from year to year as we make the camp experience enhance the curriculum.

A whole school camp out is held on the school oval. Students have the option of sleeping in tents or swags. Activities include students setting up the campsite, night hike, BBQ tea, outdoor movie on the oval, and a delicious breakfast of ham and cheese croissants, pancakes, cereal and toast. Through this fun activity students practise the skills of collaboration, team work, perseverance and independence.

Environmental Programs

The students have worked with school and community volunteers to develop a Butterfly Garden and have worked with parents and our Pastoral Care worker Marion to plant and maintain our school vegetable gardens.

In previous years students have made site nesting boxes for mammals and birds and have kept chickens.

Music

Our school is very fortunate to offer a variety of musical opportunities for our students. Classes have 2 music lessons with our specialist music teacher Deborah Brennan. Within the lessons students sing, learn about rhythm and beat and get to use a variety of musical instruments including percussion instruments, boom whackers, guitars and ukuleles.

Music is widely celebrated at our school with students performing at end of year concerts and celebrations.

Physical Education

P.E. is seen as an important part of our school program and students have regular P.E. and Health lessons as well as fitness sessions each week.

During Term 1 Reception to Year 4 students participate in a week long swimming program at the Noarlunga Leisure Centre while Year 5 students attend a swimming program at Port Noarlunga and Years 6 and 7 take part in an Aquatics program at the Port Noarlunga Aquatics Centre.

Students are also encouraged to apply for, and participate in, a range of SAPSASA Sports, which involves competition with a range of other schools and districts.

A range of coaching clinics are also conducted at the school each year. Which sports organise coaching clinics is largely dependent upon availability of coaches, however we endeavour to have one coaching clinic per term that all children participate in.
